Solar Energy “greener” Cleaner Electricity. DOE Solar Future Study

What part will Solar Energy play in the United States greener future?

Solar energy is fulfilling the need for a “greener” and cleaner source of electricity. According to “The Solar Futures” study completed by the Department of Energy, by the year 2035, solar power can potentially supply 40% of United States electricity demands. The study identifies how solar power production allows the United States to significantly reduce its annual carbon emissions while potentially creating 1.5 million U.S. jobs, all without raising electricity costs to consumers.

Current State of Solar Power Installations Throughout the U.S.

At the end of 2020, the United States has installed 15GW of solar power generation, a record amount. According to The Solar Futures study, by the year 2035 the United States will quadruple annual solar capacity. By 2050, solar energy generated across the U.S. could provide up to 1,600 GW, allowing the nation to operate a zero-carbon power grid. This level of electricity generation can potentially exceed total U.S. power demand.

Integrating Solar Energy into the U.S. Energy Grid

For the nation to operate a zero-carbon electricity grid, a massive, geographically deployed renewable energy platform that includes solar power and other alternative energy sources is required. To obtain clean grid status U.S. power companies must install annually between now and 2025 an average of 30 GW of solar capacity and install an average of 60 GW of solar energy between 2025 to 2030.

Renewable Energy Health Benefits and Cost Offsets

A solar power augmented electricity grid can create significant health benefits for U.S. citizens resulting in cost savings for many Americans. Improved air quality resulting from “green technology” power sources can generate potential savings of 1.1 to 1.7 trillion dollars in health care costs. These saving could potentially outweigh the cost of transitioning from greenhouse fuels, coal, oil, and natural gas to renewable energy sources.

EcoCentricNow LLC helps mitigate greenhouse gas emissions
